And so it begins... It seems that every year the holiday season kicks off earlier and earlier.  Maybe it's the Christmas Carols that have been playing for weeks or that almost every shopping area, and town green are strewn with lights and ornaments, but the holidays are definitely here.  My weekends are already booking up with get togethers with friends, work parties, and my high school reunion (yikes!).  Almost always I chose a more casual dress, so here are a few casual holiday outfit ideas.

Pretty sure everyone all throughout the country is feeling this arctic chill, I am just thanking God I don't live in or near Buffalo.  I am a warm weather girl, but unfortunately I live in a place where we only are graced with nice weather from May to October. It is often a struggle to find comfy, cozy, seasonally appropriate clothes all while looking somewhat fashionable.  Today I chose leggings and layers...

I find in most of the posts that I write, and in others that I read, the weather is often a topic of discussion.  How can it not be?  When writing about what is current or what we are wearing for the day it is almost always chosen as a result of the weather outside.  Here in the Northeast the weather changes quickly and drastically.  When it starts to get cooler/cold, I find myself wanting to just be comfy and cozy, always referring back to my  trusty 'go to' articles.  This Free People duster is one of my favorites. 

One of the many reasons I started a blog was because I love reading others.  I prefer fashion, lifestyle, make-up, and DIY blogs.  Often times it is where I draw inspiration, and creativity, and was hoping to do the same for others.  In my very hectic life, It gives me time to be me.  It takes a lot of courage to put your thoughts, ideas, and self out there for anybody to read or view, regardless of what you are posting about.  One of the most rewarding things has been developing a camaraderie with other bloggers and readers.      

Cyber Bullying and Blog Bulling have been going on since the introduction of the comment section.  While it is expected that people have differing opinions in almost all avenues of life, there is certainly no better way to get your point across then calmly, well thought out, and intelligently.  In my opinion you are more often heard when you have a point than when spewing nonsensical B.S., to hear yourself talk... Or read what you've typed.  That saying ' You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar' always comes to mind. Political websites and blogs are the usual venue for people of opposite opinions to duke it out in the comment sections, but also the perfect place for anonymous internet trolls to kick up some dirt.

You can only imagine my surprise when this past week as  I was reading one of my favorite blogs and about to post a comment I saw a slew of anonymous negativity in the comments section. Again, NOT that it is more acceptable, but it is one thing if you are reading a political blog and you are voicing your opinion on economical or global issues.  To anonymously post on a fashion blog about someone's hairstyle, scarf or eyelash length seems completely unnecessary, not constructive, and deliberate.  Since, I have come across this same negativity on other sites.  Who are these internet trolls?  If I were to render a guess I would say possibly people on the periphery of these women's lives.  Assuming these internet bullies are women, aren't we supposed to build each other up, not knock each other down?  So easy to be mean with no avatar and a fake name.  What do they think they are accomplishing?  I can tell you they have accomplished nothing!  In a failed attempt to make themselves feel better by putting others down in true text book bullying fashion, they have not succeeded.  The women that write these blogs handled themselves with such grace, a reason why I love their blogs and continue to read what they write. Simply ignoring the haters and being gracious to their fans.  Continuing to post with out skipping a beat, and not giving the power to those negative people in their effort to abuse.  We should feel sorry for these people and all people who bully and abuse in life that are trying to make people as powerless as they are in their struggle for approval.

Often times people ask me what people are wearing, what the trends are, what is worth buying.  One of my best friends had a baby a few months ago, and hasn't worn anything non-maternity for the better part of a year. She requested that we have a day of shopping to buy some much needed basics and staples.  I shop more often than I would like to admit, but I almost never shop without a purpose.  It can be overwhelming and you may end up impulsively buying.  Staples are pieces that you can wear over and over accessorizing many different ways to get many different looks.  Here are a few that I believe are must haves for your current wardrobe.  

Jeans- Whether it be a skinny, boot cut, boyfriend, or all of the above, you need denim.  Fortunately we are in a time where pretty much all denim is a go.  Most washes, distressed and cuts, etc.  This means, you probably own at least one of these styles... go out and get at least one other pair, you won't regret it.

Cords - Everyone needs one pair of cords. In my opinion, if you are only going to have one pair, they should be a neutral color.  They will be more versatile and you will wear them more often if they are, grey, taupe, beige, or black.

Plaid Shirt- Everyone should own at least one.  Pair it with a pencil skirt and a statement necklace, jeans and boots, or leggings and sneakers... you can not go wrong with a plaid shirt.

Boots and Booties- a pair of to the knee, or over the knee boots and an ankle bootie can bring you right from fall through the winter.  There are so many heel heights and price points to choose from. Over skinnies, leggings or tights, with dresses, skirts and tunics, you just can't go wrong.

Lil Black Dress - because you just have to have one in your wardrobe.  So many styles to pick from, but if we had to pick one, I would make it a shift.  Dressed up or down, it can be worn sooooo many ways.

Leather Leggings (real or faux)-  I prefer leatherette leggings, but it is all personal preference. In addition to the vast price difference, I think leatherette is more comfy and easier to move in.  They are a great alternative to jeans.  The texture gives them a little something extra. Pair them with heels or sneakers for endless looks.      

Denim Jacket - I don't even think I need to explain this. Pretty much part of my uniform from April through November.  In the colder months throw a fur (real or faux, no judgments here) vest over it!  Just get one!

Leather Jacket - Just as a denim jacket works for pretty much everything in the warmer months that is how the leather jacket works for me in the colder months.  Honestly I believe you can pair a great leather jacket with pretty much anything. I have nothing but respect for people who will only where vegan and faux fur, but if you are NOT one of those people, I suggest you invest in a real leather jacket.  You will be amazed how warm they keep you.

The Loose Tank - My favorites are Chaser tanks.  I own them in a bunch of different colors. Loose, a little see through, with bigger arm holes.  Something a little sexy about your bra saying peek-a-boo.

A Duster Sweater: Why?  Because you can throw it over anything and it will polish a look!

It is not all too often that I get to meet up with friends in the city for a nice dinner.  With a closet full of clothes, I always feel I have nothing to wear!!  While I never stray too far from my usual jeans or leggings, and drapey top, I like to switch up the textures. Maybe a little leather, fur, a sequin or two, and ALWAYS heels on a night out.  For me heels make me feel taller, and more confident, and on this night, confident I felt!
