Super Bowl Ready

Thursday, February 2, 2017 4:30 AM

Happy Thursday!!

Only one more wake up until the weekend, more importantly three more until the Super Bowl!
I know there are certain regions where sports fanatics are bred and Boston, MA is one of those places.  I have lived and visited many other cities in the US and it always surprises me to see their sports fans, Boston sports fans are tried and true.

I was NEVER a sports fan growing up. Living with my brother and dad constantly discussing sports, watching games and replays, Ugh. My brother was a big hockey guy, so most of my sports memories are of the Bruins.  Bruins banners, posters and waste paper barrels decorated his room. I even remember him drawing the Bruins symbol on his dinner plate in mustard...I am not kidding. As we got older ESPN or NESN were always on one of the TVs.  My sister even nicknamed NESN, Never Ending Sports Nightmare.  As I got older I began to like the Red Sox, because going to games were so fun! For years, Bostonians and New Englanders alike felt the heartbreak of the curse of the Bambino. Victory, on so many occasions was right at our finger tips...only to fall apart at the end of each season. Finally in 2004 after 85 years Boston took home another World Series Trophy!

With the Patriots, it wasn't quite as dramatic. Probably because they weren't as beloved.
I knew few people who held season tickets, but nobody I knew was an insane fan... until of course the 2001 season.

on Sept. 23, 2001, with 5:03 remaining in the fourth quarter of the Jets-Patriots game, Jets linebacker Mo Lewis slammed into Patriots quarterback Drew Bledsoe along the right sideline at
old Foxboro Stadium.

That moment changed the NFL forever.

Bledsoe returned for a series, threw one more pass, and then was replaced by unknown backup Tom Brady.  Bledsoe never got his job back as Brady led the Patriots to their first of four Super Bowl titles and has evolved into arguably the best NFL quarterback ever, or G.O.A.T. as we here like to say.  The rest as they say, is history! It is virtually impossible to live in this area and not be obsessed with the Patriots. They play hard, they win, and they are all so darn handsome!

Sundays are Patriots Days.  We dress for games. I own a few Patriots tops and you bet I 'll be wearing one Sunday, but some days I like to show my support a little more subtly.
Like this red, white, and blue patriotic look.

Every year we have a Super Bowl party regardless if our team is in it or not.
It is still fun for the commercials and half time show.

These are some delicious treats we will be enjoying at game time

My Sister-in-law's recipe for

Buffalo Chicken Dip
  1. 1 (8 oz) pkg Philadelphia cream cheese, softened.
  2. 1/2 c. Frank's RedHot Original Cayenne Pepper Sauce or Frank's RedHot Buffalo Wing Sauce.
  3. 1/2 c. blue cheese or ranch salad dressing.
  4. 2 c. shredded cooked chicken.
  5. 1/2 c. crumbled blue cheese or your favorite shredded cheese.
  6. crackers or vegetables, for serving.

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Combine cream cheese, buffalo sauce, salad dressing, chicken and crumbled cheese in a 1-quart baking dish.
  3. Bake 20 minutes or until mixture is heated through. Garnish as desired. Serve with crackers or vegetables.
  4. Reduced Calorie Recipe: Substitute neufchatel cheese for the cream cheese and low fat options for the salad dressing and blue cheese.
  5. Slow Cooker Method: Combine ingredients as directed above. Place mixture into small slow cooker. Cover pot. Heat on HIGH setting for 1 1/2 hours until hot and bubbly or on LOW setting for 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Stir.
  6. Tailgating Tip: Prepare dip ahead and place in heavy disposable foil pan. Place pan on grill and heat dip until hot and bubbly.

  2. Meanwhile, combine beer, Reduced Cream Base, butter, red pepper and pepper in1-quart saucepan. Cook over medium-high heat, stirring with wire whisk, until mixture just comes to boil. Reduce heat to medium; add cheese. Continue cooking until cheese is melted and smooth. Keep warm.
  3. Meanwhile, place hot dogs onto grill. Grill, turning occasionally, until heated through and grill marks show; 5 to 9 minutes. Place hot dogs into pretzel buns; top each with 2 tablespoons cheese sauce. Sprinkle with popcorn, if desired. Serve with remaining cheese sauce for dipping.

How do you guys Super Bowl?  What are you favorite foods? Do you like the halftime show and commercials?
