Happy Halloween!

It is no secret that I love Halloween! Any excuse to play with hair and makeup and I'm in. 

I love, love, love to play with my makeup weeks ahead of time to figure out a perfect look. 

Looks of Halloweens past:

As much as I love it, my friend Jen and her husband live for Halloween.  They go all out every year for their annual house party, and this year was the first that my schedule allowed me to attend.  

Like I had said in my previous post I was going to go along with Jen and Chris's Tim Burton theme, and narrowed it down between Sally from A Nightmare Before Christmas, or the Corpse Bride. I decided on the latter of the two.  I knew that if I was going to be corpse like, I would need to head to Kryolan for my makeup. Kryolan have been supplying the film, theater and television industries for over 70 years, which makes us one of the world’s first professional make-up brands. She really did go above and beyond my expectations.

Good Morning! . 

A little background story:  My parents have been married for over 48 years. When they met, my mom was 16 and the captain of the Sacred Heart Color Guard and my dad was 19 and marched for the world champion drum and bugle corps, The Boston Crusaders.  Through the years, my brother, sister and I have heard countless tales of how they met, and nostalgic accounts of their glory days of marching.  My father now 71 serves on the Board of Trustees for the Crusaders and it is still a very big part of their lives.  Between fundraising and competitions, it seems they are frequently and happily attending Crusaders events throughout the year.     

In the late sixties when they marched it was often what city kids did in order to stay off the streets and out of trouble. Most of the corps were broken down by parts of the city, and or church parish.  

Now these drum and bugle corps and color guards have auditions and accept kids from all over. They are gone the entire summer competing across the country. Every year they try to out do the year before, and this year they chose the theme of the Salem with trials.  It was fabulous! Of course my parents followed them to many competitions as they won top ranking in most.  Along with fundraising, the corps raises money through their merch. My dad got my mom and I these adorable and completely appropriate tees, boy he knows us so well.   

In addition to the tee being perfect for the Halloween season with it's witchy saying,  the cut and fabric are just so fabulous and comfy!   I can not believe that Halloween is Tuesday! I have always loved getting dress up for Halloween, not only on the day, but being festive through out October.

Good morning loves! 

Normally I would think it was a bit too early to start thinking about holiday style,

Have you ever heard that quote,

 'When you think of someone, it means they were thinking of you first'?

It always seems when someone pops into my mind after a long period of time, suddenly they appear.

Does that ever happen to you, like you have conjured them or something? This happened to me yesterday. I was talking to my mom about an old friend who I haven't heard from or seen in years, and I got to work I received a FB message from that very person from another person's page, weird right? Seems he has been off the grid for some time and now after moving from place to place has settled with another friend on Portland, OR.  They had come across a photo of me from high school and had to reach out. What are the odds, that after so many years we would be thinking of one another at almost the exact moment?  

These are the things I love about life, the universe works in such mysterious ways. 

This sweater though! It is so soft and comfy, if I would live in it I could. I read recently that when women get dressed they should 'show their skinny'.  I don't think they necessarily mean 'skinny', but your best attributes rather. When I was younger it would have been my smaller waist, my friend Lorreen has legs for days, so that is her 'skinny'.  I find now that my best features are my shoulders and décolleté, which means, give me all the slouchy, off the shoulder sweaters!

Happy Tuesday! 

I feel like lately I have just felt 'meh' about fashion and style.  I mean don't get me wrong, I still love to get dressed and look my best, but recently I have found myself uninspired.  Often times recently I go into stores and I am completely underwhelmed.  I noticed during the Summer that I had fallen into the not so uncommon blogger rut where I was posting trend, upon trend, upon trend and straying from my own personal style.  While of course I will still post trendy pieces, I am challenging myself to be more on path and true to my own personal style and hopefully still inspiring others. 

If I were to pick a quintessential Elise look, this is it.

I have a million different variations of this look.  The jeans are blue, black, or gray, the sweater is almost always black or gray and some sort of leather jacket is a necessity. 

This is how I feel most comfortable, this is my uniform, this is me.

These photos were taken last weekend when we ventured out to Roslindale, the part of Boston where my mother grew up. Years ago, this street was filled with family owned fruit, fish and meat stores as well as my grandparents Italian restaurant, The Village Cantine, now the trendy Birch Street Grill. This area has been rejuvenated recently with amazing restaurants, boutiques and yoga studios, such a fun neighborhood to visit!
