Draped Jacket and a Healthy Dose of Vulnerability.

This is a sponsored post provided by Tobi; all opinions are my own
Happy Friday!!
This is my fifth post sponsored by the online store Tobi. You can check out my other posts here, here, here, and here. Tobi has been a longtime favorite of mine. Their classic, minimalist designs are appropriate for almost all occasions. The pieces are all exceptionally well made and true to size, delivery is speedy and their customer service is knowledgeable and top notch. All reasons why I am a return customer and a very high % of my closet is Tobi.
When I started this blog a little over two years ago, it was something I did for myself. I had zero clue as to what I was doing but what I did know was that I love all things fashion/style related and love reading other style blogs. Friends and family were always putting me to work helping them shop, style or find items and latest trends. This is something I have always taken such pleasure in. It has taken me a long time to figure out so many things about blogging, and every day I am learning more
In the beginning, up until recently actually, I told a very small amount of people in my life about this blog that I spend so much of my time creating. I have gone back and forth trying to figure out why and I have come up with these reasons...
I am a very private person and I don't like to be judged (who does really?). There is a huge sense of vulnerability that goes along with posting a blog and along with that, a sense of judgement. At least twice a week I give people an inside snapshot of me and what is going on with me. That is immensely unnerving, less however when it is people reading my content that don't know me personally. However, one of the magical things that has happened over these few years is that I have developed relationships with other bloggers and readers and my sense of anonymity has faded, but I am ok with this. I have slowly but surely began telling more people in my 'real life' and most have been very supportive, a few have had the reaction I thought some would.
Some Questions I have fielded:

I have slowly but surely began telling more people in my 'real life' and most have been very supportive, a few have had the reaction I thought some would.
Some Questions I have fielded:
Q. Do you think you are a model?
A. Umm, no, not at all.
Q. What makes you an expert on fashion?
A. I am not an expert, nor do I think I am. I enjoy fashion and style and thought I could share any knowledge I might have on the subject. Turns out I am learning and evolving more than I had ever thought.
Q. What do you get out of it? Isn't it just a waste of time?
A. Well, it is something I started doing because again, I love to read other blogs and write about my experience and style. I have developed relationships with readers, boutiques, brands and other bloggers. Although sometimes stressful meeting deadlines and getting posts out regularly, it is pure enjoyment.
Q. Aren't you just being showy posting things that you have?
A. I don't think so. S&S is more of a style blog than a fashion blog. While I appreciate couture, and high fashion, I don't have the bank account for it. I enjoy showing everyday, street style looks and where you can purchase such items. Often times I will post a splurge/ save post, always posting links where to get deals.
I just recently switched my insta account to a business profile and in order to do so, you must have a FB page to prove you are a business. This gave me anxiety. Who will see it? My ex-class president? Old college friends? PTC moms? People I work with (GAAASP)?!? Maybe and it is what it is.
I am putting myself out there!
Here is my new S&S Facebook page.
I would love followers!

You are beautiful inside and out and I think you for showing us what you're feeling inside regarding your blog! I have to tell you I am exactly the same way and most of the people in my real life don't even talk to me about the blog and I don't say too much about it. Sometimes it is strange that the relationships I've made online with other bloggers are much more meaningful than the ones in real life, LOL! Love your outfit sweet pea, and I hope you have the most wonderful weekend and it's as gorgeous as you are!
ReplyDeleteOh Andrea, you are so sweet. Love you so much!

Love this outfit! All your looks with Tobi have been so cool. The shape of that jacket is so neat, and I love the boots. Blogging is a vulnerable thing. Good thing it is fulfilling and rewarding too! Some of those questions...

Wow, you've read my mind and put down all the words I would use. This is my world too. I've not told many people mainly close family and friends. My sister said I've got too much time on my hands and to get a job lol, (she wasn't be nasty though) I've not been brave enough to link my fb account with my mummabstylish account. I'll know when the time is right. I'll be following you on FB for sure, maybe you could check mine blog out too? Thanks and keep up the great blog. I love your outfit btw CAH! x Jacqui

It is so hard putting yourself out there, but I have decided to do it and I am unapologetic. :)
DeleteThank you for your kind words Jacqui!
xx,
I loved getting to know you a little more! It's hard to tell people you blog. You know because talking pictures taken of what you wear and putting yourself on the internet just because is not easy to explain.

Elise, thank you for opening up in this post. I do have the same reaction from most people too. Some think it's trivial. But who cares, fashion blogging isn't what our entire life is about. It is just a small percentage of who we are. My fave part about fashion blogging is also the opportunity to meet so many great females who have been nothing but supportive to each other. And I love that!

Another great look!! I don't like talking about myself or my blog but my best friend tells everyone about it!! Lol! I have a Facebook blog page and I always share it on my personal page!! Ha! I'm sure there are some people who think I'm full of myself but I don't care. :)

I just liked your FB page!! :)
I'm in love with this look! The jacket drapes perfectly on you, and I'm obsessed with your necklace! It's scary to put yourself out there, especially today when everyone is so judging, but if it makes you happy then you should! I learned through blogging that those "friends" who judge you, and not worth having.

I can totally relate to this! It is scary putting yourself out there to be judged but I just think, as long as I am enjoying it, then that is the main thing.. and I am definitely enjoying it! Such a chic look, love the draping on the jacket.

Another gorgeous outfit. Another pair of amazing boots! And I hear you on the vulnerability that we feel when putting ourselves out there through blogging. It is stressful but so worth it. I have been met with so many positive responses and have developed such wonderful relationships through blogging that I can't imagine not doing it anymore. Although, I do always feel a little weird when I tell a person face to face that I am blogger. Sometimes I get a strange look. But other times the response is interested excitement. So that is what I focus on instead of the negative.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for linking up with me On the Edge of the Week! I hope to see you again this week. Have a fabulous day!
