Happy Tuesday loves!
What a weekend!! The weather here was super mild and it was so lovely to be a little less bundled and spend some time outside.
Generally I am a pretty confident person, but like a lot of women I can be very critical of myself. Like most, my self doubt comes and goes, but in recent weeks even after having made the New Years goal of being nicer to myself, I have failed miserably. I blame a lot of my self critiquing on my dance years when I would stand in front of a mirror in a leotard and pick apart every perceived flaw. Although I don't stand in front of a mirror hours on end anymore, now when I pass by my reflection I see my wrinkles, laugh lines, muffin top, thighs... ugh!
On Friday evening I was out to dinner with some friends and every single one of us at one point ripped ourselves apart. I had to put a stop to it! All of these woman are beautiful, intelligent and super successful! What is wrong with us? What is wrong with our society that it is so ingrained to think we aren't enough. Truth is, I can make as many goals to treat myself better, and have self acceptance, yada, yada, yada, but how? How do we break the cycle of negativity? Affirmations? Mantras?
How do you practice self acceptance and love?
xx, Elise

Gorgeous Elise. I feel that way about every post of yours, so please excuse my redundancy. ;) Self-acceptance is a hard one, especially when insecurities begin to arise when we are children. How do we fight off those well-worn pathways of thought we've created in our minds. It's not easy to renew my mind! And I think hormones (gasp, I know) play apart in how I feel from time to time. I truly believe my worth and value is based on what God says about me and not what the world says, but I'm human and I emotionally forget that at times. Thank you for opening your heart and thoughts to share with us and prompting a good message for today!
ReplyDeleteThank you Chrissy for your kind and enlightening words.

I can relate...years of ballet will do that to you! You are amazing the way you are!
ReplyDeleteAnother gorgeous look, and loving that belt! As women we are either constantly tearing others or ourselves down, and it definitely needs to stop. Such a positive message to start my Tuesday <3

I love this look, babe- and those boots, yes! And RIGHT- we all tear ourselves down so much! Gotta stop. I don't know what the answer is, but mindfulness is definitely a good start.

I think everyone of us has trouble with self confidence at times. I try to remember no one is perfect and focus on things I love about myself. You look amazing! I love that cozy vest!

This is my kind of outfit and you look beautiful Elise. I am really digging those sunnies - my heart is going pitter patter! 💕💕💕 Self acceptance is a challenging one. My mom always told me to love myself and at a young age it's hard to know what she meant. Growing up and getting teased didn't help either. I only recently learned of self acceptance when I started getting rid of negative folks and started practicing gratitude. For example, I think my eyes are small and always wanted them rounder and bigger so I get self conscious about my eyes when I don't wear make up BUT then I read or see someone who doesn't have eyes or who can't see and I can't help but think I should be grateful for my eyes instead of wishing they were XYZ. Happy Tuesday and I hope your week is off to a great start!

I love the window pane plaid top with the vest! Great for cooler weather. I have been hearing so much of what you are saying lately. Ladies all over my instagram feed are saying how they feel so down over themselves. It is really so sad because each person is so unique and beautiful. I mean if we all looked like Barbie the world would not have any depth to it. I think embracing how we are as women and looking at how far we have come individually and collectively as a whole should have us stand proud no matter our age or our "flaws".

First off, you look amazing in this outfit and I am loving those boots! I can completely related because the wrinkles have been a big thing for me to accept on myself. I don't know why it is so easy to tear ourselves apart. Sierra~Beautifully Candid

I love your post! That is so true, why do women do that? Like, seriously. It is so easy to compare yourself especially as a blogger or digital influencer.

Isn't it crazy how we as women can totally tear ourselves down? When I come to your blog I always think what a beautiful woman you are (with a fab sense of style & a kind heart too!) but we can so be our own worst critics. Thank you for opening up about this!
ReplyDeleteThis plaid shirt would be so perfect with so many jeans!

You look amazing and this post is so true. We always tear ourselves down instead of lifting up and being positive. Wonderful message!
ReplyDeleteI love how perfectly casual and chic this outfit is! I have totally gotten down on myself too, and I think it's so easy to compare yourself to others (esp as a blogger!). I just try and work on allowing myself to admire others, but focus on myself and my goals. It can def be hard!
